I like this place because they carry Hale and Hearty soups in microwaveable containers (small and large sizes). Other than that I don't do too much grocery shopping in here. I wish they had more variety in the bread options and in their produce. The checkout staff is slightly standoffish but not rude. An average store but very convenient for last minute groceries.

Some very good things to be found here but - like every supermarket in the neighborhood - they grossly overcharge on some basic items in the hopes most people won't look at the price.

The Good:

1) Deli. Great cold cuts and excellent service.
2) Meat. Not cheap but you get good quality
3) Atypical brands. Find green tea cookies or that delicious bag of cayenne sweet potato chips. You get the idea.

The bad:
1) Fruit and veggie prices are abusive
2) The baked goods section is just awful
3) Be careful of overpriced name brands - e.g. $9.00 for a pint of Haagen Dasz ice cream.

This is a great store for gourmet food and also for quick day to day shopping. I love their cheese and nuts selection. They carry Balthazar and other famous nyc bakeries bread. Beer selection is also decent. Good meat cuts and their ready made meals are also super tasty (salad, empanadas, etc and deli counter). Some people here are complaining about the price: nothing here is more expensive than dirty and sketchy Gristedes, 2 blocks away, not to mention the superior quality of the Garage. Keep an eye for promotions, they have them constantly including buy 1 get 1 free on gourmet items: a bargain! Staff is always helpful and corteous.

Good quality, an occasional bargain, and it certainly bests Whole Foods. Sadly this location has closed and I'm unaware of a replacement in the neighborhood. The east side of Manhattan desperately needs a Trader Joe's.

Morten Williams is a better bet. Gourmet Garage is a bit more pricey. Take home food is good but about the same as Morten Williams but MW has better and bigger selection.

The UES location just closed but it was my go to place for bagels for work events. They also make a great salmon bermuda onion cream cheese - I'll have to pick up at another location. Sad to see them leave UES after so many years!

Always check the expiration dates on perishable items here. I’ve purchased dairy products 2+ weeks expired on multiple occasions.

Love this store. Selection of good, and prices are great. Shop here whenever im in tge neighborhood. LOVE IT.
